Clayton is located in the old Canal Zone, on one of the former Military Bases of the United States. It is positioned at the opening of the Panama Canal directly in front of the Miraflores locks. It is in an area of high appreciation and convenience located only minutes away from the main access to the Corredor Norte Highway.
Clayton is close to important shopping centers such as: Albrook and El Dorado Malls, where you can find all kinds of shopping, movie theatres, and restaurants. Clayton is home to The City of Knowledge
Its main campus covers an area of approximately 300 acres. The City of Knowledge is an international complex for education, research, and innovation. It has been developed to promote and facilitate synergy between universities, scientific research centers, businesses, and international organizations. The City of Knowledge is governed by a private, non-profit organization, The City of Knowledge Foundation, which was created in 1995.
The City of Knowledge fulfills its mission through three components: the academic component, the business component, and the international organizations component, whose synergy generates unique opportunities for developing initiatives that can capitalize on the advantage that the new economy offers.
The City of Knowledge resources include a local network of businesses, academic and research, and scientific associates, including the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENACYT).
Clayton is home to the New US Embassy
The new US Embassy is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed by the middle of 2007.
The new chancery floor area is over 120,000 SF. It is designed to provide each occupant with an aesthetically pleasing work environment and operated by state of the art equipment. This facility will consolidate all the embassy functions that are currently spread throughout the city.
One of the chancery’s primary features is a large open atrium space in the center of the building that will foster a sense of community between various agencies. Included in this space is seating for a modern cafeteria. To burn those extra calories the compound also has an exercise room, swimming lap-pool, basketball court, and a tennis court.
The site plan for the NEC can be delineated into five separate zones:
- Main entry to the compound and parking lots.
- Consular entry garden.
- The ceremonial plaza for the NOB and staff garden.
- MSGQ, and
- Recreational facilities for passive and active recreation – swimming pool, tennis court, open lawn areas, and interior parking areas.
Clayton is home to several new planned communities
