The Panama Metro has announced the commencement of the initial tests for train movement without passengers as part of the Line 1 Extension project. These tests covered the stretch from the San Isidro station to the Villa Zaita station.
As of the latest update, the overall progress of the project stands at an impressive 72%, with specific components such as stations and viaducts reaching a notable completion rate of 95%.
The recent test marks the beginning of a series of comprehensive activities included in an exhaustive testing plan. The primary objective is to meticulously verify and confirm the safety conditions and functionalities of the entire railway system.
The installation phase of equipment along the track has been successfully completed, marking the initiation of dynamic tests for the system. This phase encompasses the movement of trains, a crucial element in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the expanded railway network.
Overseen by the Panama North Line consortium, which comprises OHL and MOTA ENGIL, the Line 1 extension project boasts a total investment of $177,967,848.33. The extension itself spans 2.2 kilometers, connecting San Isidro to Villa Zaita.
These significant strides in testing and progress signify a promising step forward for the Panama Metro’s expansion efforts, heralding enhanced connectivity and transportation infrastructure for the region.
