Panama’s main airport moved 16.2 million passengers in 2023

The Tocumen International Airport is the largest airport in Panama with 31 airlines; 15 cargo airlines and 17 passenger airlines.

The Airport had registered the transit of 1,503,860 passengers in November, reaching a total of 16.2 million passengers processed for the year 2023.

According to the general manager of the Tocumen air terminal, Raffoul Arab, the first 11 months of 2023 have equaled the historical passenger record of 2019, which most likely indicates that at the end of December there will be a new annual record.

The markets with the greatest regional movement in November were: South America with 46%, followed by North America with 27%, the Caribbean 12%, while Central America contributed 11%. , and European markets contributed a 4% share.

Destinations

The Tocumen International Airport maintains direct routes to 87 destinations, through 17 commercial airlines that offer services to the main cities of America and Europe.

The November results indicate that of the total number of passengers who used the Tocumen terminal, 73% were connecting passengers.

Among the regional terminals, Panama Pacifico registered the highest movement with 34,753 passengers processed. While the domestic terminal that operates in Terminal 2 processed 20,534 passengers.

    Panama needs to do a better job promoting tourism. When 73% of the traffic is connecting then Panama isn’t capturing this potential. Panama needs more resorts and the 3 they have in the Rio Hato area need to be totally redone.
