ABOUT PENONOME

Penonome is very close to the Pacific coast (30 km) and well connected to Panama City (150 km). Of great interest are the Penonome and the Penonome Museum, dedicated to the history of the town from the indigenous to colonial times, through the period of the Conquest. There is also a museum dedicated to the brothers Harmodio and Arnulfo Arias Madrid, presidents of the Republic of Panama. The province of Cocle, of which Penonome is the capital, is a land of impressive natural attractions combined with a diverse culture and a history rich in folklore and handicrafts. It has great tourist potential for its rivers, mountains and tropical forests populated by a rich and unique flora and fauna.

The economic activities of the district of Penonomé are centered on the agricultural sector (agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry) and the service sector. In the urban area of the district, specifically Penonomé Cabecera, there are concentrated businesses, construction and carpentry companies, mechanical workshops, services, transportation, and public employment.

In the townships of Coclé, Penonomé Cabecera, Cañaveral, Río Grande and El Coco, rice, tomato, melon and watermelon crops are grown, as well as livestock.

In the northern area (Chiguirí Arriba, Pajonal, Tulú, Toabré and Río Indio) they are dedicated to subsistence agriculture, as well as the production of horticulture, citrus and tubers, most of which are sold in the Penonomé Public Market.

In recent years, agricultural production has intensified in the districts of Toabré and Pajonal, including cattle, pork and poultry production.
